Whether you’re taking a road trip or catching a flight to your beach destination, there’s no doubt you’ll have a fantastic time on vacation this summer. But with travel comes a not-so-fun preparation activity: packing. Nobody enjoys packing, but everybody loves what comes after this task: vacation, adventure and relaxation. We have the ultimate packing list for your summer vacay:
Obviously there are plenty of items you can’t forget, including:
- A hat
- Beach towels (if not provided)
- Casual, day-time clothing
- Nicer clothing and shoes for meals and or other occasions
- Cosmetics and toiletries
- Workout gear, in case you want to burn some calories you’ll be taking in through ice cream and happy hour cocktails
- Electronics chargers
- Passport, if you’re leaving the country
There are other important items you might not remember to bring along. Here are some extra must-haves you’ll be glad you packed for your beach getaway:
Even if you want to get some color on your vacation, you absolutely can’t lie out in the sun without an even coat of SPF. Wear your sunscreen every day and reapply every two hours — or more frequently if you’re sweating or swimming — you’ll thank yourself later.
Obviously if you forget your sunscreen at home, you can pick up a bottle from a nearby convenience store. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that certain destinations put hefty price tags on essential items seldom forgotten, like sunscreen. So if you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to keep your arms and legs from burning, it’s best to bring some along. This might mean bringing along a few small bottles if you’re going on a plane to make sure the liquid container size meets security’s limits.
A Beach Read
Nothing beats sitting on the beach with a great book in your hands. Don’t forget to bring along a good paperback or stock up your e-reader before leaving for your trip. When your brain is in vacation mode, it might not be ideal to bring along a complex piece of classic literature. It might be tough to comb through Dickens, Tolstoy or Ellison when you’re in bliss. Instead, bring along a page-turner to entertain you while you’re sprawled in a beach lounger.
Waterproof Phone Case
If you’re planning on engaging in water sports or snorkeling while on vacation, you might want to bring your phone along to snap some pictures of yourself and your travel companions in action. Make sure you bring along a waterproof phone case to protect your phone from water damage while also giving you the ability to snap pictures below the surface. You can capture some of the best moments of your vacation with a water-safe case, whether it involves spotting a giant sea turtle underwater or capturing a breathtaking sunset while kayaking.
Miniature First Aid Kit
The beach is the perfect place to hang ten, catch up on summer reading and get some R&R. But it’s also a place where safety hazards are common and frequent. Especially if you’re traveling with children, you’ll want to make sure you have bandages and ointments on you at all times. Even though you don’t want to think about unpleasant things happening when you’re on vacation, it’s important to prepare for all types of incidents. If your kid cuts her foot on a sharp shell while running across the sand or your partner gets stung by a jellyfish while swimming, you’ll be the star of the trip when you come through with reinforcements.
Reusable Water Bottle
When you’re lying out in the sun for hours on end, you’re going to get a little thirsty. It’s so easy to get dehydrated on vacation, especially when you’re on the go, exposing yourself to heat and enjoying some alcoholic beverages. Instead of buying water bottles from stores and vendors, go the eco-friendly route by bringing along a reusable water bottle. When the temperatures are rising, you’ll be glad you remembered it.
No matter where you go this summer, we hope you have an amazing vacation!
