As the nights are getting crisper and the days are getting shorter, you might feel less compelled to initiate a date night or evening with your girlfriends as you did when the sun set at 8:00 p.m. And even though you love to hang out with your loved ones, everyone needs a night to themselves from time to time. Why not plan a cozy night in for yourself in the upcoming weeks? Here are some of our tips to treating yourself to a cozy night of relaxation:
- Get Comfy
When you’re having an evening to yourself, why not slip into something a little more comfortable? Put on your softest robe, your loosest sweatpants and your favorite slippers. As you probably know, the first step you’ll want to take when decompressing is getting out of those stiff pants you wore to work and (even more importantly) taking off those shoes that have been pinching your toes all day.
- Revamp Your Skin Routine
Most nights, we don’t have time to take care of our skin the way we’d like to. You probably have time just to do the bare minimum for your skin during the week, washing it and maybe applying moisturizer. But what about when you want to do a little something extra to revitalize your skin just in time for winter? Having a relaxing night in is the perfect excuse to indulge in a face mask, serum or exfoliant that can go beyond basic skin care. Who knows, maybe you’ll find that the way these products make you feel will encourage you to turn it from occasional usage to part of your everyday routine.
- Stock Up on Essential Oils
When you’re trying to transform your casual night in into a relaxing haven, you might consider adding some essential oils into the mix. There are hundreds of unique scents that come directly from plants, wood, fruits and other resources, which have been proven to have some significant health benefits.
Are you trying to mimic the luxurious scents of a day spa? Try using some eucalyptus! What about when you have your hopes set on going to bed early so you can rise and shine at an early time? Lavender oil gives off a scent that naturally puts your brain into bedtime mode. Wanting to decompress after a tough week of work? Plenty of essential oils, such as bergamot, chamomile, rose and jasmine, are natural stress relievers. Depending on the type of mood you’d like to set for yourself, try to get creative with some scents that work double-time, setting the mood and benefiting your health.
- Indulge in Some Comfort Food
What’s a night of relaxation without some good ol’ fashioned comfort food? When you’re treating yourself to a cozy night in, you’ll want to pick at some of your favorite foods, those snacks and meals that make you feel at ease.
Just because it’s comfort food doesn’t mean it has to be junk! To some people, comfort food might be pizza and ice cream, but when you’re trying to practice all-around wellness, you might indulge in some foods that are just as kind to your mind as it is to your body. Your favorite chicken noodle soup recipe or your go-to recipe for baked salmon and vegetables might bring you just as much joy as a frozen sheet lasagna and a huge box of Chinese takeout. (Plus, a healthy meal means you won’t have to feel guilty indulging in some late-night hot chocolate!)
- Binge Your Favorite Show
You’ve got the self-care routine and the tasty food, but you’ll need something entertaining to do while you’re treating yourself. If there’s a show you’ve been obsessed with lately, tune into some episodes while you’re cooking, lounging about and doing your skin routine. Or you can watch “Friends” for the 90th time – we won’t judge!
- Set the Scene
Just because you’re having a night to yourself doesn’t mean you shouldn’t deck out your home with lovely decorations. One effortless decoration that can add life and peacefulness to your living space is a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers. Whether you’re a fan of blushing lilies or much prefer arrangements that feature stunning fall chrysanthemums, we have just what you’re looking for to put yourself in a relaxing state of zen.
