Quick Remedies to Fix Your Mid-Winter Sickness

While winter brings joy to many in the form of glistening snowfall and holiday cheer, it often ends in muddy puddles and seasonal illness. But just because you’re feeling under the weather more often this time of year, that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. There are plenty of simple, quick-fix remedies you can try to get rid of that pesky cold, everlasting cough and stuffy nose. Here are a few remedies to your mid-winter sickness:

1. Get Plenty of Rest

When it comes to feeling sick, one of the easiest and most beneficial remedies is getting good old fashioned rest. Make sure you’re getting a full night’s sleep when you’re feeling ill and be sure not to overwork yourself during the day. Naps aren’t always possible, but taking it easy throughout the workday can be very helpful during this time.

2. Practice Simple Prevention Methods

Avoiding a cold during the winter can sometimes feel impossible, especially when you have children who are constantly spreading germs. If you want to minimize your risk of getting sick at all or escalating discomfort, it’s recommended to have a well-balanced, healthy diet and encouraged to exercise to boost your immunity. You should also wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face and steer clear of others who may be contagious.

3. Hydrate with Tea

Whether you feel sickness coming on or you’re already elbows deep in a cold, hydration is key and tea can be your savior during this time. Try this brew found on Allrecipes called the Ultimate Cold Relief Home Remedy Tea:

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of water
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and mashed

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Let cool, pour into a mug and enjoy.

4. Take a Warm Bath

Feeling congested or overheated? A warm bath can be gentle and soothing when you’re under the weather. Throw in a bath bomb and some essential oils for a more exciting bath time experience.

5. Sleep with a Humidifier

Dry air tends to cause congestion, especially during the winter. Humidifiers are amazing and help to moisten up your bedroom and clear your nasal passages. They also help soothe dry skin that is always present in the colder months. Just make sure you are emptying it daily and cleaning it once a week so not bacteria or mold builds up.

6. Treat Yourself to Fresh, Vibrant Flowers

Sometimes, the easiest way to feel better is by brightening up the room with something that makes you smile. A gorgeous bouquet from Teleflora may be the answer to your mid-winter sickness.
