How to Freshen Up Your Home on a Budget

After a long day of work, our homes are where we return to relax and unwind. Our homes are where we host gatherings and celebrate life’s biggest milestones. A home should never feel drab or tired, but major renovations are often not an option financially. If you’re looking to liven up your living spaces without breaking the bank, consider these 5 tips to freshen up your home on a budget.

  1. Splash In Some Color

Color accents are a great way to liven up a room. Consider tossing a few throw pillows onto your couch, adding an indoor plant or framing some colorful wall art. You can even opt for neutral throw pillows with colorful slipcovers so you can change the color scheme of your living room with the seasons. As a rule of thumb, pastel colors brighten and open up spaces, and darker colors make rooms feel warmer and cozier. If your concern is about a room feeling cramped or claustrophobic, err on the side of airy. Choose bright whites and pastels, and switch out any heavy drapery for something lighter. If your home feels washed out, add pops of Technicolor hues to give it some life.

  1. Add Floral Touches

Add some floral touches to your home by adding floral pillowcases or placing fresh cut flowers around. A floral centerpiece on the dining room table can make a space feel festive and lively. If you are feeling a bit more hands-on, you can create wall art by pressing flowers and making patterns on canvases or shadow boxes.

  1. Grab a Paintbrush

A simple can of paint can go a long way in terms of transforming a space on a budget. A new color on the walls, or even a single accent wall, can make a room feel completely new. Follow the same color rules as you did with your accent pillows.

  1. Draw Inspiration from the Ocean

There’s nothing fresher than a breath of salty sea air. Capture the essence of the ocean in your home decor to introduce a brightness and renewed sense of calm to a room. Ocean themes are great for a minimalist theme, and are also easy to DIY from sand and shells you find at the beach and wood and twine from the craft store

  1. Change Your Linens

Draping a new tablecloth over the dining table is an affordable and effective way to freshen up a tired dining room. If you don’t use a tablecloth, consider buying a new set of table mats and napkins. The new linens work wonders in the bedroom as well. Since the bed is the centerpiece of the bedroom, if your sheets look drab, the whole room will. Your bedroom should be a calm, cozy haven of relaxation. Pick a color which soothes you for the main bedspread, and choose pillowcases and a throw blanket in complementary shades.
