4 Ways to Decorate Your Home for St. Patrick’s Day

Whether you’re Irish or not, St. Patrick’s Day is a fun occasion to celebrate the heritage of this singular nationality. Maybe the leprechauns visited your home when you were a child, leaving behind mischievous notes and small trinkets. Or perhaps you’ve continued this tradition with your own children, coming up with your own ways to delight them on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day. If you plan on taking part in this celebration of Irish culture, you might consider embellishing your home with some St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Who knows, maybe it will bring you some luck. Here are some DIY crafts that will bring the Irish spirit into your living space and decorate your home:

Celebrate Traditions with DIY Celtic Knots

There’s no excuse to avoid using a coaster when they’re this cute. We Are Knitters, a blog for avid knitters, shared a tutorial on how to craft coasters in the shapes of festive Celtic knots using extra yarn that’s lying around the house. It’s a handmade decoration that you can do while watching TV, and the results are completely worth the (minimal) effort! These complete loops of the Celtic knot, which have no starting or finishing point, represents the eternity of friendship, faith, love and loyalty. Once you’ve discovered this meaning, these embellishments begin to look even more beautiful.

Create Your Own Pot of Gold

Your kids will go nuts over a decoration that embodies the old legend that a pot of gold sits at the bottom of a rainbow. Create a large banner in the shape of a rainbow, using markers or paints to add each stripe of color. You can do this on your own or recruit your kids to help with the coloring process. Once it’s dried, hang up this piece of artwork on a blank wall, then place a black bowl at the bottom of one side of the rainbow. Fill this bowl with gold marbles or chocolate coins with golden wrappers. This fun decoration will make your home feel truly magical.

Decorate with Irish Flag Mason Jar Centerpieces

If you have any extra mason jars lying around your home, you’ll love this craft. If not, don’t hesitate to run to your nearest home goods store to buy a package of these containers in bulk. Grab some white, orange and green paint, as well as a few paintbrushes, and get to work drawing each stripe of the Irish flag on the jars. The Irish flag is one of the easiest to illustrate, so you don’t have to be a skilled artist to make these look nice. Once they’ve dried, place them along your mantle, dining room table or coffee table and fill them with simple additions, like simple white flowers or greenery from your garden.
